Get ready for date night!! Night In Boxes is a subscription service that I found on Instagram. Every month, they send a box full of goodies with instructions on how to turn the contents into a fun and flirty night. The idea is to make time for yourselves as a couple at least once a month, without the hassle and expense of a night out on the town.
Everyone who knows me knows that I love a good night out, but this subscription box is perfect for us as a couple. The box is $41.99 per month, which is cheaper then a date night in the city. In Miami, that wouldn’t even cover one person’s meal! I also have a 15% off code for you at the end of the post, so stay tuned.
Each box has a theme, and the September box was “Painted with Love”. The box came with everything we needed to recreate a “Painting with a Twist” type class from the comfort of our living room. As you can see, there were paint brushes, 2 small canvases, paint, glue, napkins, a candle and a candy snack!
The key to making this a relaxing, stress free night is the guide that comes with the box. Not only are all of the pieces included, but the evening is also completely planned for you! First, there is an optional dinner menu which I opted not to make (lol). I might still try a few of the tapas style recipes because they looked really good. I did, however, make the recommended sangria!
I changed the recipe slightly because I fancy myself somewhat of a sangria expert, and my beverage dispenser is bigger than the suggested pitcher. My dispenser is from Home Goods, but I’ll link a similar one here. You can find the matching mason jars on amazon here, and the reusable plastic straws here #savetheturtles. Sangria is always a great choice for date night or if you’re having people over because it’s easy to make, and you can the giant batch will last a while. The longer it sits, the better it tastes!
Next, it’s time to set the mood! For each box, Night In Boxes creates a customized playlist on Spotify. You don’t have to be a member to get access to the playlists, and they are BOMB for date night. Check those out here. This month’s box also came with a cute little candle from Northern Lights to #setthemood. It smelled so good, but it was only a sample size so we definitely joked about that while we replaced our giant candle. You can get the full version of the candle here, and use code PERFECTPEAR20 for 20% off.
For the main part of the date, we had to paint a cohesive image on 2 canvases. There were a few options which I appreciated. The box came with glue, which you could use to freehand images on your canvas, paint over them, and then peel the glue for a glue resist painting. We opted for the “Guided Canvas Painting” where we could follow along with an instructor in a video specifically made for this date. With the guided painting, there were 2 videos: a scene with 2 love birds and a scene with 2 palm trees (which we picked, because, Miami).
The box came with napkins to put under the canvas, but they were a little small and we don’t trust ourselves with our new couch. Instead, we broke down a cardboard box from the move, draped it over the ottoman, and that worked perfectly.
We had so much fun with this date, and it really surprised me! Chase resisted the painting idea at first, so it was really cool to see him get out of his comfort zone and have fun with it! Although the video was only 20 minutes long, it took us about an hour because we had to pause the video to mix paint. The back of the guide had a list of “on theme” movie suggestions, which I think was a really great idea to keep the night going. Big Eyes (2014), Midnight in Paris (2011), and Ghost (1990) were a few of the suggestions. We ended up turning to the Netflix show we’re binging at the moment because we were done being artsy for the night.
Long story short, we had a lot of fun with this and definitely recommend for couples who are new or have been together for a while! Night In Boxes is running a sale until mid-November, so it’s a good time to try it out. Use code FALLINLOVE18 here to get in on the October box! They also have “Kids Night In” boxes if you want to make it a family night.
